Sometimes patients are suspected of having environmental exposures that can lead to dermatitis. Allergic contact dermatitis testing is checking for reactions that are similar to poison ivy. Not everyone is affected, but those that can react will react if they are re-exposed to the offending chemical.
A common allergic contact dermatitis is that of nickel (jeans metal button, jewelry, glasses), preservatives in creams and lotions, perfumes, rubber accelerators, medications (neomycin, benzocaine, topical steroids).
Many of the clinics can perform the True Test for 36 common allergens.
